Collective Gallery
Cockburn Street, Edinburgh
In 1999 the Scottish Arts Council awarded a grant of £160,000 to the Collective Gallery to fund a building refurbishment of their premises in Cockburn Street. The Gallery has a reputation for hosting contemporary visual art shows, which can involve diverse forms of media. The building is located in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town conservation area. The project comprises a common level to the three Gallery spaces, a new shop front and new mechanical and electrical services. The Architects, Reiach & Hall, co-ordinated the restricted budget to the Gallery’s brief. As a Gallery, there was a high aesthetic demand on all the exposed services. Samples of each product were approved by the Gallery and Architect prior to specification.
