Renewable and Sustainable Energy Design

Our focus on energy conservation is integral to our design philosophy. We adopt a tried and tested structured approach to designing and providing energy efficient buildings to minimise running costs.  Once the energy demand of a building design has been minimised and provided efficiently, the third step in achieving an energy sustainable building is to optimise its potential for using renewable energy.

The relevant steps are outlined below:

Stage 1 - Maximise Passive Design

In the first instance the building design should be efficient, incorporation measures such as good fabric and glazing insulation levels, and controls of solar heat gain whilst providing good levels of daylighting.

Stage 2 - Minimise Active Design

Having reduced energy demand, we then seek to design out energy requirements by installing energy efficient plant and systems to meet building energy demands. Suitable control systems shall be provided to ensure the system’s energy efficiencies can be realised.

Stage 3 - Incorporate Low Zero Carbon Technologies (LZCT)

Once the energy demand of buildings has been minimised and provided efficiently, the third step in achieving an energy sustainable building is to optimise its potential for using renewable energy.

Scope of Service:

  • Feasibility assessments
  • Whole life cost analysis, capital and operational costs
  • Advice on Grants (Low Carbon Buildings Programme, Bio-Energy Capital Grants)
  • Feed-In Tariffs and Renewable Heat Incentive advice

Energy & Carbon Consultants

KJ Tait Engineers employ CIBSE Low Carbon Consultants and Low Carbon Energy Assessors who are fully accredited at all levels. We are also experienced design engineers, Chartered with the UK Engineering Council and full members of CIBSE.

Escalating government targets and rising utility costs have increased the importance of effective management of energy and water.

KJ Tait Engineers have extensive specialist experience in energy auditing and our building services and facilities engineers will carry out detailed assessments, benchmark current energy use and provide recommendations on how to reduce energy requirements, energy costs/waste and minimise environmental effect.

Scope of Service:

  • Independent review of current energy and water technologies
  • Advice on efficiencies of systems and potential improvements
  • Renewable and sustainable energy advice
  • Establishing and maintaining energy database for the property portfolio
  • Energy performance management report

         - current performance against benchmarks

         - potential for improvements in fabric, services and management

         - implications on ratings, energy use and emissions

         - cost and payback analysis
